Physical Properties of Aluminium

  • Aluminium has a lower density than any other commercial metal except magnesium. Given the right type of surface, aluminium makes an excellent reflector, especially for ultraviolet light.
  • Aluminium is an odourless, tasteless, silvery-white metal. With increasing silicon and ductile and quite soft. The aluminium crystal has a face-centred cubic structure.
  • The concentration of the lattice in the less pure metal results from the formation of impurity segregations. Purity also affects most other physical properties.

  • Aluminium may also be used as a selective cold or hot wall or as a body approximating the effect of a black body. In the infrared region, the reflectivity of aluminium is exceeded only slightly by that of gold and silver.

Because of its lower atomic weight, aluminium has a low density in comparison to other metals, making it an ideal material for the construction industry.

Corrosion Resistance

In most environments, the corrosion resistance of this metal is excellent. Aluminium Alloys are incredibly resistant to all kinds of weather conditions and are thus used in the majority of exterior applications.

Recyclable

This metal can be recycled incessantly. Melt it, reform it, re-melt it, but it never loses its quality, and the process can be continuous. By recycling 1 tonne of aluminium, 9 tonnes of CO2 emissions can be saved, and the process of recycling is quick.

Non-flammable

As per British Standard BS 476, this sustainable metal has been described as non-combustible. After prolonged exposure to fire, the metal will start melting, not burning, once it reaches its melting point.
